British test driver Andy Wallace broke the 300 mph
barrier on Volkswagon’s Ehra-Lessien test track, reaching a v-max of 304.77
miles per hour. Not only is this super car insanely fast, but it is also the
first supercar to be able to exceed 300 mph.
An aerodynamic evolution of Bugatti’s Chiron was
designed to assist in cresting that 300 mph mark, with an extension made of
carbon fibre and a body of lightweight composite material. The Chiron that was
the responsible for crushing previous super car speed records is equipped
special Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires capable of rotating 4100 times per minute.
According to Top Gear, this modified super Chiron
will probably come into production as a Super Sport model. It is unclear whether
or not the road model Chiron will be able to hit 300 mph. Regardless, this
speak speed demon has certainly established a new, impressive benchmark. Now
holding a title as a creators of the
world’s fastest supercar, it will be interesting to see what Bugatti does next.
They have since implied that they will withdraw from the competition to produce
the fastest serial production cars.
